APORDE call for applications
The African Programme on Rethinking Development Economics (APORDE) will allow a select group of 20 fully-funded participants to take part in a 12-day high-level training in development economics. They are looking for applications from policy makers, academics and civil society organisations from the South. APORDE will have a Southern African spin so most participants will be drawn from SADC countries, while candidates from the rest of the developing world with an interest in Africa are also invited to apply. The deadline for applications is 20 December 2006. The programme will be held from the 13th to 25th of May 2007. More details on the programme and call for applications.

TrustAfrica
TrustAfrica seeks to strengthen African initiatives that address the most difficult challenges confronting the continent. TrustAfrica began in 2001 under the aegis of the Ford Foundation. In mid-2006 TrustAfrica, with the opening of its new headquarters in Dakar, Senegal, became an African think-tank independent from the Ford Foundation. It makes small and (infrequent) large grants for capacity building to promote participatory management, transparent governance, effective communication, and sustainable outcomes for CSOs in Africa. For more on the activities of TrustAfrica and how to apply for funds please see their website and grant information page.

UK-Africa Research Partnerships
The British Academy is the national academy for the humanities and the social sciences in the UK. As part of its activities under the UK-Africa Academic Partnerships, two awards of up to £10,000 a year for up to three years are available to support the development of ongoing links between UK and African research centres or institutions, within the humanities and social sciences. The link would be built around a specific research theme of mutual interest. This could be carried forward through various activities: visits, training, workshops; seminars and lecture programmes; collaborative research; and joint publications. The programme will ideally involve participation from more than one African institution, and might also involve more than one department/university/group/research centre in the UK. Application forms and further particulars are available at: www.britac.ac.uk/funding/guide/intl/africaap.html. The deadline for this year's applications was 30 April 2006, however the network should actively look at this opportunity for next year. Please contact the International Relations Department for further advice.

The Ford Foundation: International Fellowships Program (IFP)
The Ford Foundation's IFP provides opportunities for advanced study to exceptional individuals who will use this education to become leaders in their respective fields, furthering development in their own countries and greater economic and social justice worldwide. To ensure that Fellows are drawn from diverse backgrounds, IFP actively seeks candidates from social groups and communities that lack systematic access to higher education. Fellows can enrol in masters or doctoral programmes and may pursue any academic discipline or field of study that is consistent with the interests and goals of the Ford Foundation - these include strengthening democratic values, reducing poverty and injustice, promoting international cooperation, and advancing human achievement. The application needs to go through partner offices of Ford Foundation in various developing countries. For more information on the programme and details on how to apply see the IFP pages on the Ford Foundation website.
