- Think pieces:
The crisis in Southern Africa has stimulated considerable
debate and discussion. This debate has taken place both
in the regional and internationally and amongst various
different interest groups. The documents in this section
of the information centre are a selection of views, perspectives
and positions on the crisis and reflect many of these different
interest groups. They refer to the broader dimensions of
the immediate crisis and to longer-term views for the development
of food security policy. In addition to a general category,
the remaining documents are grouped under four thematic
areas.
- Regional Programme
Documents: This section will contain statements for
key institutions with interests or programmatic activities
relating to the crisis in Southern Africa. The documents
refer mainly to regional views of food security in the region
and details of programme activities from government, various
donors, NGOs and international agencies. There are also
documents that discuss key regional issues, for example,
those relating to regional trade in agricultural products
and or the roles of Southern Africa regional institutions
such as SADC. Agency website coordinates are given where
these contain additional relevant publications and data.
- Country Documents:
This section provides a selection of key documents relating
to the food security situation in each of the study countries.
The documents refer not just to the current crisis but also
to previous crises. There is access in this section to government
statements, data on individual countries from international
agencies and data on national level vulnerability assessments
and other early warning systems. Agency website coordinates
are given where these contain additional relevant publications
and data.
