Social analysis allows us to assess how an intervention or policy is likely to affect different groups of people. We do this by examining the socio-cultural, institutional, historical and political context of vulnerability. Social analysis helps us to ensure that projects are inclusive and equitable, typically using qualitative methods which help us in understanding processes and relations that cannot be quantified.
For example, our work on migration policy examines the informal and agricultural labour markets and has a particular focus on migration as a mechanism for supplementing the livelihoods of the rural poor.
