A particular feature of our work is to provide advice on the policy frameworks to anticipate, and respond to, contemporary trends in the sector. With our partners we have developed a range of approaches to assessing the impact of policies at the global, national and local level on incomes of poor people engaged with agricultural production in the South.
When necessary, our staff are skilled at drawing together insights from disparate sources including uneven and partly reliable quantitative data to synthesise current understandings of issues quickly and efficiently. Policy-makers often prefer to have preliminary answers to questions quickly, rather than wait for more definitive judgments. That usually means using secondary sources to inform debates.
