  • Our work examines the implications for citizen state relations and the linkages between the promotion of rights at the domestic and international level. In particular, we focus on the following interconnected issues.

    • Economics and rights, looking at the costs, benefits and effects of promoting economic and social rights, and the connection to the pro-poor growth agenda.
    • Rights and governance. We focus on the role of rights in state-building, with a particular focus on citizen-state relations and fragile states
    • Justice and the rule of law., i.e. how the state’s capacity for rule of law enables the realisation of rights, this is a key for meaningful political settlement and legitimate state building processes.
    • Aid and rights, focusing on donor's policies on aid effectiveness and rights promotion.
