The International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie, www.3ieimpact.org) is a new initiative dedicated to improving development outcomes through better use of evidence from quality impact evaluations. The main challenge for the organisation is to promote influential impact evaluations that will help improve policies and programs and ultimately affect many lives in developing countries.
This project aims to improve research utilisation at HEARD by producing a paper on approaches to understanding the research-policy link; facilitating a workshop to develop research utilisation plans, advice on network strengthening; and developing and pilot training package for policy-makers to commission and use research.
To help improve the definition, design, and implementation of policy research, researchers should adopt a strategic outcome-oriented approach.
The overall objective of the Project is to support and promote the use of Outcome Mapping (OM) globally, and to challenge the boundaries of OM theory and practice. This follows on from phase I and phase II.
“Is international aid value for money?” This is a question many people around the world ask, especially as the budget deficits of some of the world’s largest donors are growing due to the global financial crisis. As unemployment and poverty levels are rising in donor countries, the moral argument for promoting aid is losing ground too: why help others when we’re not taking care of our own? The development community agrees that aid could be more effective. Therefore, research results should be considered in order to improve aid effectiveness and agencies’ accountability.
„Ist die Entwicklungshilfe ihr Geld wert?“, fragen sich weltweit Menschen, insbesondere, da die Haushaltsdefizite einiger der größten Gebernationen in Folge der globalen Finanzkrise gewachsen sind. In Zeiten, in denen Arbeitslosigkeit und Armut in Geberländern zunehmen, verliert auch das moralische Argument, Hilfe leisten zu müssen, an Boden: Warum sich um andere kümmern, wenn man eigene große Probleme nicht in den Griff bekommt? Die Entwicklungshilfe-Community weiß selbst, dass ihre Arbeit mehr Wirkung entfalten könnte.
