    Sara Pantuliano, head of Humanitarian Policy Group (HPG),  and Simon Levine, research fellow HPG, delivered updates to the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and other stakeholders on the recent developments in  HPG/ODI research.  The seminar was part of the efforts of MFA to contribute to more comprehensive discussions on humanitarian issues and to building a stronger research community within Norway.

    This Background Note presents key findings of a study that maps the impacts of the food finance and fuel (3F) crisis on vulnerable social groups, particularly women and children, as well as related coping strategies undertaken by households across Nigeria’s six socioeconomic zones.     The current crisis in the Horn of Africa is exposing the need to better support the resilience of pastoralist livelihoods in the region. This event launches Rules of the range: Natural resources management in Kenya – Ethiopia border areas, a study which explores institutional issues around rangeland management and mobility in these areas, and the links between institutions and livelihoods resilience.

  5. Launch of the World Disasters Report 2011: focus on hunger and nutrition

    The livelihoods of an estimated 12 million people are currently under threat in the Horn of Africa and nearly 4 million people in Somalia alone are in need of life-saving assistance. Although the world produces more than enough food to feed everyone, in 2011 almost 1 billion people will go hungry. This event is the UK launch of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies' (IFRC) annual World Disasters Report (WDR). This year the report focuses on global issues of hunger and malnutrition.
