    HPG is currently undertaking a series of eight case studies in Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia focusing specifically on the vulnerabilities of displaced populations in urban areas and how national and international actors can best respond. Simone Haysom will present a selection of findings from the studies on urbanisation and humanitarian action.

    Juba calling: what next for South Sudan?

    Following the decision in January to shut down its oil production, South Sudan's government has introduced austerity measures to compensate for the loss of revenue. Juba has announced that spending on everything except salaries will be halved.
     
    This event, jointly organised by HPG and the Associate Parliamentary Group on Sudan and South Sudan (APG), brings together panels in London and Juba (via videoconference) to explore the urgent humanitarian challenges which lie ahead for the world's newest nation.

    Urban displacement: implications for humanitarian and development actors

    Event - Round-table - 1 December 2011 09:00 - 16:30 (GMT+00)

    This event will explore research on displacement in urban settings and will enable policy-makers, operational agencies and researchers to share their experiences and understanding of how to best engage in urban contexts and assist urban displaced population.
