The (not so) easy task of translating research into policy and practice

    Opinion - Articles and blogs - 3 October 2012
'How can research feed into development policy and support positive change? This question remains critical to the development research community, and attempts to answer it often rest on understanding the roles, interactions and incentives between the many different actors in the research to policy process.'
  2. Improved integrated risk management could help address risks posed by slow-onset processes

    Publication - Articles and blogs - 6 September 2012
At the 2010 United Nations climate talks, the Parties to the UNFCCC recognised the need to strengthen efforts to understand and reduce loss and damage associated with extreme weather and slow-onset events, caused by climate change. Parties requested the Secretariat organise an expert meeting and a series of regional consultations to consider ways to address loss and damage, taking into account experience at all levels. Here, Katie Harris presents Part Two of a two-part report from the Latin America and Caribbean meeting held in Mexico City, Mexico, in July 2012.

Publication - Research reports and studies - 18 May 2012
    Simon West
This case study examines how REDD+ and adaptation policies are currently aligned in Nepal’s national policy, before assessing whether planning for REDD+, outlined in the Readiness Preparation Proposal (R-PP), is likely to contribute to adaptive capacity at the local level.
  6. Synergies between REDD+ and adaptive capacity at the local level - a Ghana case study

Publication - Research reports and studies - 18 May 2012
    William McFarland
This case study uses the Local Adaptive Capacity (LAC) framework developed by the African Climate Change Resilience Alliance (ACCRA) to compare how REDD+ strategy options may impact LAC in Ghana. It analyses not only how REDD+ may affect the provision of assets necessary for adapting to climate change, but also the role of REDD+ in building processes and functions that develop the adaptive capacity of people at the local level.
