    This event will launch the book Waging Peace in Sudan: Past, Present and Future (Sussex Academic Press). Speakers will discuss how regional efforts, the engagement of the Troika (US, UK and Norway) and the two leaders on each side, Vice President Ali Osman Taha and late Chairman of the SPLM/A Dr John Garang worked together in ending the longest civil war in Africa and will provide possible scenarios on the future of the two Sudans.

  5. Strengthening principled humanitarian response capacities

    The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) and the Humanitarian Policy Group is undertaking a study on strengthening principled humanitarian response capacities. This study seeks to examine the challenges to adhering to these principles in practice and how donor funding restrictions can hamper the ability to provide principled humanitarian assistance.

    Presenting case studies from Khartoum, Juba, Nyala and Port Sudan, this meeting series by the Humanitarian Policy Group at the Overseas Development Institute explores the phenomenon of urbanisation and its drivers in different parts of Sudan, and analyses its social, environmental and economic consequences, with particular attention to urban livelihoods, as well as infrastructure and the provision of basic services.
