REDD+ in a green economy - Global Symposium
Over the past three years, the UN-REDD Programme has developed a body of work on ‘Ensuring that REDD+ and a Green Economy transformation are mutually reinforcing’, based on pilot activities in a number of partner countries. The Global Symposium aims to take stock of the lessons learned, with a view to provide key decision makers with a stronger rationale for linking REDD+ planning and REDD+ investments with green economy efforts. The Symposium will focus on the role of comprehensive land-use planning for capturing environmental, economic and social benefits from REDD+ investments. ODI is facilitating sessions and chairing panels, plus authoring the symposium report.

Three stepping stones towards integrating forests into landscape planning
With deforestation contributing up to 20% of global greenhouse gas emissions, curbing emissions from forests – known as ‘REDD+’ - is vital in efforts to tackle climate change. As countries work towards REDD+, it has become increasingly clear that this is not just an issue for the environment and forests sectors. For example, with conversion to agriculture the main driver of deforestation, changes in the agriculture sector are needed to reduce pressure on forests.
