The Rights in Action programme investigates the difference that rights make in the lives of poor and excluded men and women. In our work we focus on the relevance of rights principles and frameworks for development action, poverty reduction and humanitarian protection.

In our research and advisory work we examine the normative,
analytical and operational dimensions of rights. We are
committed to evidence-based and action-oriented research,
aimed at improving the knowledge as well as the practice
of different actors, including policy makers, researchers,
practitioners and activists. The emphasis on the practical
dimension of rights requires a multidisciplinary approach to our
research; with our work we aim to provide opportunities for open dialogue and better exchanges between different disciplines and communities of practice.

In addition we provide technical support to development and human rights agencies for training and capacity building.

We are a multidisciplinary team of economists, political and
social scientists, natural resource specialists and lawyers. The
programme was established in 2003.
