Current Projects

Civil Society Partnerships Programme: This programme aims to promote improved contribution by CSOs to pro-poor national and international development policies.

Civil Society Organisations Case Studies: Short case studies on the topic of CSOs, Evidence and Policy Influence, gathered as part of the CSPP programme.

CSO-Parliamentarian Engagment in East Africa Project: this research project investigates an under-studied dimension of the research-policy-practice interface: the links between civil society organisations and parliamentarians.

A Collaborative Programme for Knowledge Systems in Support of Rural Livelihoods: A joint DFID/WB/FAO action-learning project to develop and test approaches to improve information and communication systems in rural areas.

Establishing a Knowledge Management System for AHA: A collaborative project with African Humanitarian Action to help to establish knowledge and learning practices.

Evidence-based Policymaking in Vietnam: a project to provide an understanding of the role of research institutes and think-tanks in policymaking in Vietnam.

Japan G8 Global Project : This Southern-led project aims at advancement of research-evidence on effectiveness of Japanese aid on Global South.

Knowledge Management at ODI: ODI has recently developed, and started to implement a strategy to improve internal knowledge and learning processes and systems.

Latin America Trade: This programme seeks to support the adoption of policies that promote the reduction of poverty and inequality through trade, thereby contributing to the achievement of the MDGs in Latin America.
Making Energy Policy in Africa More Pro-Poor and Evidence-Based: joint work with AFREPREN including a policy engagement project and a comparative study on energy policy, promoting pro-poor and evidence-based policy.
Meeting Science/Technology Information Needs in the Policy Community of Developing Countries: This study commissioned by SciDev.Net aims to explore how developing country policymakers access information on science and technology.

Networks Study: This new research on networks focuses on how civil society organisations can communicate their evidence and experience into policy processes for international development.

RAPID Evaluations: examples of evaluations of the work of research-policy interventions, aiming to assess the quality, effectiveness, influence and sustainability of research-policy intervention, to improve such interventions and to help promote learning.
Rural e-services: a three year project to look at how participatory rural appraisal can be used with participatory software design methods to develop appropriate (and appropriated) ICT solutions in microfinance cooperatives.
Strategic and tactical influencing workshops: a collaborative project to create an innovative solution for the provision of a blended learning solution for an Influencing Skills Learning Programme for DFID.
   
Completed Projects

Aid, PRSPs and Development: Towards Stronger Japan-UK Linkages: This initiative focuses on the latest thinking and practice in aid policy in the UK - with the aim to increase interaction between researchers in Japan and the UK.

Bridging the Gap between Research and Policymakers in India: A project to run a workshop for researchers, policymakers and practitioners involved in the Low-flows and Livelihoods Project in India to consider how to improve the policy impact of the project.

Bridging Research and Policy (ODI): Running alongside the GDN work, this project will developed a framework for, and undertook 3 case studies of research-policy linkages.

Bridging Research and Policy (GDN): Having helped to design it, ODI has been contracted to coordinate the establishment and first year of the Global Development Network's Bridging Research and Policy Project.

Building Japan-UK Research Links: An initiative initiative to increase the interaction between researchers from Japan and the United Kingdom to address development issues of pressing global concern.

Building Southern Research Capacity: A desk study mapping agencies involved in strengthening the capacity of southern research organisations.

Comparative Analysis of the Civil Society Index Project in Post-Communist Europe: A project with CIVICUS to analyse the CSI project findings, comprising a review and systematic synthesis of the CSI country studies in Eastern Europe.

Delivering Quality Services, Indonesia: A draw-down contract to provide intermittent support to the DFID-funded, Delivering Quality Services project.

EU policy coherence for development: A project for the EU Presidency on EU policy processes, and the scope for development inputs.
Evaluation of the Engineering Knowledge and Research Programme (EngKaR): An evaluation of EngKaR to support decision-making about the future of research on pro-poor infrastructure within the Research Funding Framework.

Evidence-based Policymaking: Lessons from the UK for developing countries: a project to identify lessons and approaches from evidence-based policymaking in the UK which may be valuable for progressive policymakers in developing countries.

Forum for Food Security in Southern Africa: Developing a web site and managing E-conferences for this DFID-funded project.

The G8, Africa and Japan's Aid to Africa: This project brings together three initiatives focusing on the views of Japan and the UK on African development and how they can work together more effectively.

HIV/AIDS: Bridging Research and Policy: A project to improve understanding about the key determinants of policy change regarding HIV/AIDS.

Independent Evaluation of the SMEPOL Project: A project to carry out an independent evaluation of the Small and Medium Enterprise Policies (SMEPOL) Project.

Mapping the Policy Process in Eastern Europe: A project mapping the policy process in Eastern Europe through mentoring the LGI Policy Fellowship Programme.

MFP Information Strategy: A two-month project to help the DFID Multistakeholder Forestry Programme in Indonesia to develop a Communications and Information Strategy.

Postgraduate Projects on Research and Policy: RAPID welcomes the opportunity to work with students on relevant postgraduate projects, providing brief and interesting insights into topics that are relevant to research-policy linkages.

Pro-poor Livestock Policy Research: A collaborative project with ILRI to to identify and institutionalise innovative research and development mechanisms and approaches that lead to pro-poor policy outcomes.

Responding to HIV/AIDS in Developing Countries: Action Research-Policy Projects: This project aims to promote evidence-informed policy on children and HIV/AIDS at national and local levels in South Africa and Kenya.

SDC Policy Documents Evaluation: Evaluating the impact of policy guidance documents within the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and partner agencies.

Setting the Scene: A scoping study situating DFID’s Research Funding Policy and Practice in an International Comparative Perspective

Support for On-Farm Biodiversity: Developing and information strategy and web site for this DEFRA-funded project.

Strengthening links between research and policy: Preparation of fundable proposals for a "Bridging Research and Policy project for the Global Development Network.

Strategic Programme for Information on Sustainable Livelihoods: A six month project to help FAO develop a strategic programme to improve the effectiveness of FAO's information systems in influencing poor people's livelihoods.

UK Country Footprints - Policy coherence for development: A project for DFID aiming to understand the impact and coherence of UK non-aid policies on developing country partners.
UK Aid to Africa: A project for Mitsubishi UFJ Research and Consulting (Japan), addressing the what, why, how, and to whom of UK aid to Africa.
