Tom Mitchell is ODI’s Head of Climate Change. A geographer by training, Tom carried out his doctoral fieldwork on disaster risk management in the Caribbean and has since worked extensively on issues related to the governance and poverty-dimensions of disaster risk and adaptation to climate change. Tom has served as a co-ordinating lead author of the IPCC and is currently a lead author on the IPCC 5th Assessment Report.

Neil Bird's current research focuses on environmental policy and the international funding mechanisms that are being put in place to address climate change in aid-receiving countries. In addition to climate finance, Alice’s main research interests include the trade-offs between economic growth and environmental protection in developing countries and economic evaluation of environmental projects and policies.

Before this he worked mostly for the United Nations in a variety of post-conflict and post-disaster situations, firstly for UNDP implementing programmes, as cluster manager responsible for multi-agency delivery and more recently as advisor to Resident Coordinators.
