Tom Mitchell is ODI’s Head of Climate Change. A geographer by training, Tom carried out his doctoral fieldwork on disaster risk management in the Caribbean and has since worked extensively on issues related to the governance and poverty-dimensions of disaster risk and adaptation to climate change. Tom has served as a co-ordinating lead author of the IPCC and is currently a lead author on the IPCC 5th Assessment Report.
Neil Bird's current research focuses on environmental policy and the international funding mechanisms that are being put in place to address climate change in aid-receiving countries. This work complements earlier research on aid architecture, national budgetary processes and sector policy for environment and natural resources.
Emily has a background in international and national REDD+ policy frameworks, and is interested in how the drivers of deforestation can be addressed to tackle forest loss and contribute to development.
Alice has a background in Development Economics and recently completed a Masters at LSE in Environment and Development. Her work at ODI within the CCEF team has mainly been focused on the Climate Funds Update website and issues related to climate finance. In addition to climate finance, Alice’s main research interests include the trade-offs between economic growth and environmental protection in developing countries and economic evaluation of environmental projects and policies.
Mairi manages the publications and knowledge-sharing programme of the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) and writes for CDKN's website www.cdkn.org. She aims to make information and analysis on climate compatible development more accessible to audiences in the global South. Mairi is an experienced writer and analyst on environmental governance, land use change and climate issues.
Katie Harris specalises in disaster risk management, climate change, resilience and conflict. Katie has worked extensively across Asia and Africa.
Ari is an economist from Finland and he has spent most of his life in development work, first in the field of industrial development and technology/investment promotion and then specializing in environmental financing issues.
Lindsey Jones is a Research Officer working on issues of climate change, adaptation and development. His background lies in international development and global environmental governance.
Phil is ODI's project manager working on the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN). Split across the Knowledge Management and Research teams, he coordinates the management of CDKN-funded projects, as well as having responsibility for budgeting and reporting.
Emma is a Programme/Research Officer working within ODI’s Adaptation and Resilience Team in the Climate and Environment Programme. Her areas of interest include: disaster risk management, climate change and resilience. She also has responsibility for project budgets, reporting, contracts and project oversight in this area.
Will is the Research / Programme Officer who is the contact point for ODI's work on green growth, natural resources and forests. His research interests are in environmental economics and he also has responsibility for overseeing finances and contracts for work in this area.
Helen is the Programme Administrator for the Climate and Environment team. Helen also provides secretarial support to the Head of the Programme.
Smita Nakhooda's research is focused on energy policy, and international finance to support developing countries to respond to climate change.
Andrew Scott is a Research Fellow whose main research interests are energy access for poverty reduction and the role of energy in sustainable livelihoods and in the transition to low-carbon development pathways. His educational background is in economics but he has worked across the social sciences.
Prachi Seth has a background in climate change mitigation and sustainable development with a long standing interest in carbon markets, energy access for the poor, and evaluating how developing countries can transition to low carbon development pathways.
Nella's work within the Climate Change, Environment and Forests (CCEF) team at ODI is focused on climate finance at the national level in developing countries. Nella's research interests include climate finance for adaptation purposes as well as adaptation policy and practice in Latin America, particularly in Andean countries.
Charlene's research interests focus on the complexities associated with chanelling and programming climate finance effectively with a focus on finance for REDD+
Emily has 10+ years research experience on institutional and policy dimensions of environmental hazards.
David Brown specialises in work on tropical forest policy, particularly the institutional dimensions of community-based forest management and biodiversity conservation, and issues in environmental governance.
Jan Kellett is a research associate with ODI. Jan has recently finished leading the Global Humanitarian Assistance programme at development initiatives, which during his tenure become a one of the most used resources aid resources. Before this he worked mostly for the United Nations in a variety of post-conflict and post-disaster situations, firstly for UNDP implementing programmes, as cluster manager responsible for multi-agency delivery and more recently as advisor to Resident Coordinators.
