Effective instruments and channels for aid delivery
Our work on improving the effectiveness of aid delivery involves analysing the factors that influence aid allocation at country and sector level to ensure development outcomes.
We focus on the effectiveness of the instruments and channels used to deliver aid. We also inform new thinking on innovative financial instruments in such areas as support for the reconstruction of fragile states and financing of mitigation and adaptation projects to limit the negative impacts of climate change.
One highlight has been our extensive research on the impact of sector budget support and aid predictability on service delivery. Our team also leads analysis and provides guidance to donor agencies and partner governments on how best to handle competing sector demands for aid financing. We also support poverty reduction strategy (PRS) programming processes, providing guidance on the design, implementation and monitoring of PRS results.
Recent research projects include assessments of the impact of the current global financial crisis on the availability of aid flows and allocation of funds in various countries and sectors. We are developing new work on the impact of emerging donors (countries, vertical funds, and private foundations) in recipient countries to improve understanding of synergies with traditional donors to improve the design of aid instruments.
