20 January 2009 marks an historic moment in American history, as the nation inaugurates its first African American President, Barack Obama. But what will this mean for the rest of the world? A series of blogs by ODI researchers set out key challenges for the incoming US President.
Organized by UNDP OGC with support from IDRC Canada, this roundtable, entitled: "Evidence on Governance into Policy: The Role of Research Institutes and Think Tanks", sought to identify factors which affect the likelihood of governance evidence informing policy. It discussed the role which think tanks and research institutes play in supplying governance evidence and promoting and introducing it into governance reform, political debate and policy process.
Call to Action on the Millennium Development Goals aims to accelerate progress towards meeting these global targets, bringing together heads of state and other key figures in development for a high-level event at the United Nations Headquarters on 25 September 2008.
The forum will cover High Level Ministerial Meetings, a "marketplace" to showcase work by countries and nine "Roundtables" for more in depth discussions. The meeting will conclude with a ministerial statement "Accra Agenda for Action" – that will set the target for implementing the Paris Declaration by 2010.

Today the UN will begin a year long campaign leading to the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, on the theme of 'Dignity and Justice for us all'. The Declaration is one of the most translated documents of all time. However, 60 years on, these are not easy days for human rights.
