The crisis in Syria

ODI On...

Responding to the need for deliberation and coordination amongst humanitarian actors in Syria and neighbouring countries, HPG convened two high level roundtables. UNFCCC 2012 climate change conferences in Bonn

ODI On...

The 2012 climate change intersessional meetings in Bonn will need to pick up the momentum generated in Durban. The Durban Platform has the goal of “enhancing mitigation ambition to identify and to explore options for a range of actions that can close the ambition gap with a view to ensuring the highest possible mitigation efforts by all Parties”, and includes a commitment to develop a “new protocol, another legal instrument or agreed outcome with legal force” by 2015.

ODI staff will be hosting and participating in a number of events at Bonn, including the REDD+ partnership workshop on drivers of deforestation, CDKN's climate knowledge brokers workshop and side events on transparency of climate finance.

Fourth High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness in Busan

ODI On...

Ministers from across the globe, from both developing and donor countries, government representatives, parliamentarians, civil society organisations and private sector representatives have come together for the Fourth High-Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness in Busan, Korea, from 29 November to 1 December 2011.

ODI has produced a range of inputs of relevance to HLF-4, to inform debates and reflect on the challenges and opportunities for policy-makers and the development community. The Busan meeting follows previous conferences in Accra and Paris. These meetings delivered the Accra Agenda for Action and the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness.

We are also producing short audio commentaries throughout the conference.

United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) 17th Conference of the Parties

ODI On...

This year's Durban Climate Change Conference faces a challenging agenda. There are major discussions to be had to advance global efforts on mitigation, adaptation, technology transfer and capacity-building, and last, but not least, on finance. There is much to play for and ODI is contributing by putting forward new research and analysis on two key areas of our wider climate change agenda.

Famine in Somalia

ODI On...

The UN has designated the situation in Somalia the most severe humanitarian crisis in the world.  An estimated 12.4 million people across the Horn of Africa are in need of urgent humanitarian assistance.

ODI's work responding to the famine has been led by the Humanitarian Policy Group and has investigated:

  • why early warning didn’t translate into early action;
  • the effectiveness of the humanitarian response;
  • issues around access to water and food aid;
  • what can be learnt from previous famines in the Horn of Africa and elsewhere to inform the current response.
