Steven A. Zyck joined the Humanitarian Policy Group as a Research Fellow in August 2013. He has extensive experience as a researcher and practitioner with a focus on aid delivery in conflict-affected and insecure environments. Steven was formerly a Research Fellow with the University of York's Post-war Reconstruction and Development and the Lead Analyst with the NATO Civil-Military Fusion Centre and Crisis Identification Group. Before pursuing a research career, he served as the Country Director of the NGO ACTED in Central Asia and worked with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Afghanistan. Steven has also worked as a consultant with the World Bank, UNICEF, UNDP, WFP, IOM, DFID, the FCO, the UK Stabilisation Unit, the Norwegian Refugee Council, Islamic Relief and many other organisations in Yemen, Afghanistan, Mali, Lebanon, Jordan, the West Bank & Gaza, Bosnia-Herzegovina, the Pacific Islands and elsewhere.Steven's work has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Disasters, Conflict, Security & Development, Contemporary Security Policy and Third World Quarterly as well as by institutions such as the World Bank, NATO, various UN agencies and the London School of Economics. He is a Co-Editor of Stability: International Journal of Security & Development(www.stabilityjournal.org).At present Steven is engaged in research broadly focusing on linkages between foreign aid and security outcomes while being closely involved in HPG projects on the role of the private sector in humanitarian action and the role of regional and sub-regional bodies in crisis-affected contexts.
