ODI is Britain's leading independent think-tank on international development and humanitarian policy. Founded in 1960, it has made major contributions to research, dissemination and policy change, on all aspects of development and humanitarian policy.

The Institute has a staff of around 120, half of whom are researchers and half providing a wide range of support services.

Our Climate Change, Environment and Forests Programme (CCEF) has a track record of cutting-edge analysis and policy work around climate change. Its goal is to ensure that the world’s poorest people benefit from policy responses to climate change, and are not further marginalised by its impact.

Now CCEF is looking for a unique individual to lead this unique programme. The Programme Leader/Research Fellow will manage and develop the work of CCEF, driving a cross-institute, multi-disciplinary and innovative programme of work

About the role

You will be responsible for:

Programme Development: expanding ODI’s public profile as a centre of expertise on climate change, and the internal profile of CCEF within ODI itself;
Strategic leadership: leading every aspect of ODI’s work on climate change, from research to public affairs to policy advice;
Research: further developing an already substantial research programme, backed by strategies, professional support, mentorship and peer review to deliver this programme;
Fundraising: attracting programme funding through effective bids, proposals, and other forms of marketing;
People management: leading and managing the expanding CCEF team

About you

Above all, you have a passionate commitment to the environment and development, backed by in-depth experience and skills:

at least ten years experience in policy research and engagement and five years working in climate change;
a strong personal record in the climate change field, including publications;
proven capacity for first-class policy advisory and/or public affairs work;
the ability to manage and build a team, by promoting positive teamwork and fostering collaboration with partners.

Research Officer Evaluation and Accountability

This is an exciting new opportunity for a Research Officer to join the Active Learning Network for Accountability and Performance in Humanitarian Action (ALNAP), housed at ODI.

ALNAP is an international inter-agency network dedicated to improving humanitarian performance through increased learning and accountability. ALNAP is looking for a Research Officer to work with the ALNAP membership. The successful candidate will develop, conduct and manage high quality and innovative research on humanitarian evaluation and accountability.

You will lead on new and existing research projects and programmes focusing on key issues for the international humanitarian sector. The role will involve close liaison and collaboration with ALNAP member organisations – donors, international / national NGOs, UN agencies, the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and academics and researchers.

Research Officer Level 2:

In addition to a relevant postgraduate qualification, you have a proven knowledge of humanitarian evaluation and accountability issues, gained over 3-5 years of relevant work experience in the humanitarian sector. Experience of juggling multiple priorities is a must, as is experience of working in on applied research projects – you are fluent at translating research findings into recommendations relevant for policy and practice. As well as having experience of managing and/or conducting evaluations, you have a growing track record of publications and reports, and are an excellent communicator and networker.
