ODI is Britain's leading independent think-tank on international development and humanitarian policy. Founded in 1960, it has made major contributions to research, dissemination and policy change, on all aspects of development and humanitarian policy.

The Institute has a staff of around 120, half of whom are researchers and half providing a wide range of support services.

Communications Officer - HPG (1 year fixed term contract, subject to extension)

The Overseas Development Institute has an exciting new opportunity for a Communications Officer for both the Humanitarian Policy Group (HPG), and for ODI as a whole.

Your communications expertise will enhance the impact of HPG’s research on humanitarian policy and practice and contribute to the overall reputation and image of ODI. In addition, you will ensure effective communication for the Humanitarian Practice Network – a unique forum for humanitarians to share information and experience.

You are a self-starter, able to use your own initiative, while working well with HPG’s researchers and administrators as well as those outside ODI. You work effectively with colleagues at all levels.

The Active Learning Network for Accountability and Performance in Humanitarian Action (ALNAP) is an international inter-agency organisation dedicated to improving humanitarian performance through increased learning and accountability. ALNAP is a unique network that includes many of the key humanitarian organisations and experts from across the humanitarian sector, including members from donors, NGOs the Red Cross/Crescent, the UN, independents and academics.

ALNAP is appointing a Communications Officer on a one-year fixed term contract (subject to extension) for maternity cover. You will enhance the effectiveness, reputation and image of ALNAP through efficient internal and external communications, in line with ALNAP’s strategy for 2008-2013.

You would have worked in a comparable communications post, and with international networks. You are pro-active, work well within a small team and can build and maintain excellent relationships with ALNAP members and other stakeholders outside the network.
