The Future of Aid: User Perspectives on Reform of the International Aid System

The principal subject of this workshop is to consider how the recent increase in aid raises strategic questions about the future architecture of the international aid system. Even with the full implementation of the Paris agenda, the industry will be characterized, all else being equal, by a large number of players, complex institutional arrangements, relatively high transactions costs, and, often, poor accountability.

Modelling work has begun to develop and the links between economics and law and between trade and migration are being explored. It has been a highly contentious element of debates on the WTO. There is intense discussion about whether outsourcing of services is different from goods imports. This workshop offers space to scholars to approach this area theoretically and empirically.

Promoting Mutual Accountability in Aid Relationships - Country-level experiences and lessons

main rationale for the workshop was to promote an informal dialogue on the different ways in which these countries have tried or are trying to change the terms of the aid relationship by setting up mechanisms of different kinds to manage their relation with donors, keep donors accountable for their promises and commitments, and enhance aid effectiveness.
