On 4th June, the ODI hosted a Roundtable discussion on 'Re-thinking aid policy in response to Zimbabwe's protracted crisis'. The aim was to bring together people with a knowledge of human rights, humanitarian responses, the political economy of fragile states, vulnerability, poverty and livelihoods to discuss the deepening crisis in Zimbabwe, current aid modalities and programmatic design.

This roundtable brought together practitioners working to strengthen civic engagement in Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Pacific. Discussants tabled and compared alternative instruments for support to civic engagement with the state and drawing on the models presented, a number of lessons essential to the design and delivery of civil society support were identified.

A New Equity Agenda?

The aim of the workshop was to identify areas of agreement and consensus between the three reports in relation to three broad questions: Should equity be a goal of development policy, and if so which particular conception of equity should be used? Is there a distinct equity policy agenda, different from existing policy agendas? How can the equity policy agenda be implemented?"
