Refugees in Kenya: a briefing on recent developments and implications for urban refugee policy

On 4 February the Humanitarian Practice Network brought together senior representatives of international organisations, NGOs, and UK government ministries working in relation to Kenya and Somalia.  The discussion covered the implications of the 13 December announcement by the Kenyan government that stated it would no longer be registering urban refugees, and any refugees currently living in urban areas should relocate to designated camps.  The discussion was held under the Chatham House Rule and participation was by invitation.

Readiness for climate finance: taking stock

BBC correspondent for South Sudan and Sudan, James Copnall, was guest speaker at a roundtable event hosted by the Secure Livelihoods Research Consortium (SLRC) and the Humanitarian Policy Group (HPG). This event brought together journalists, researchers and academics to explore the political, humanitarian and development issues faced by South Sudan at present.

What should an income poverty target look like post-2015?

It is clear that the world has changed a great deal since 2000 when the MDG framework was finalised. Extreme poverty has declined while more poor people today reside in middle income rather than low income countries. What this means for the post-2015 development framework is currently under intense discussion.  In this one off event Martin Ravallion, Director of the Development Research Group at the World Bank  asks “What should an income poverty target look like post-2015”?
