Why poverty - where next?

The BBC's Why Poverty project was a unique attempt by a UK broadcaster to engage mainstream audiences with the issue of global poverty. In this public event, we'll examine how successful the project was and ask what lessons can be learnt for any future attempts to engage the public, both in the UK and around the world, with poverty and development. We also reflect on what we've learnt from broader analysis into public opinion and public engagement.

A DFID (Department for International Development) Logistics Officer helps to load a pallet of humanitarian aid to Pakistan onboard a C-17 aircraft, following devastating floods in the country in 2010. The tents were provided by the Department for International Development (DFID) which deals with global relief and development on behalf of Her Majesty’s Government.

What future for 'traditional' development agencies in a changing world?

The politics of development: the almost revolution?

ODI are delighted to host Thomas Carothers and Diane de Gramont who will present insights from their new book that assesses the progress and pitfalls of the attempted politics revolution in development aid. The event contributes to ongoing dialogue and analysis hosted by ODI on the politics of public goods and service provision, and provides an opportunity to reflect on a range of experience, from a number of sectors, in developing more politically smart aid approaches.
