Kstar conference 2012

Event - Conference - 24 - 27 April 2012

For the first time K* 2012brings together knowledge intermediaries working across the knowledge-policy interface all over the globe, to share experience, lessons learned and build a global community of knowledge practitioners. Louise Shaxson was vice-chair of the conference. Gail Wilson led and managed the social media reporting coverage of the conference which included interviews with participants as well as blogs outlining highlights from discussion.

Commonwealth / Francophonie Outreach with the G20 Development Working Group

International Committee of the Red Cross: Professional standards for protection work

At thehe Advisory Group  for the Professional Standards for Protection Work, Victoria Metcalfe will present on draft propositions based on the outcomes of the discussion held and the relevant tables and the different definitions of the concept of protection (in relation with an ODI-ICRC event on the concept of protection, which will take place in December 2011).

Mobile banking in DRC: opportunities and constraints for the Diaspora and investors

This year’s second edition of the Economic Forum for Congolese in the European Union (FECUE) is devoted to the issues associated with the transfer of funds/money from the European Union (EU) to DRC (i.e. reverse capital flight) and their allocation towards both economic and social projects in DRC. In particular, attention will be focused on the role of new enabling technologies, especially “Mobile Banking”. Christian Kingombe will lead and present the key summary from the meeting.

Iraqi protracted displacement

United Nations High Commission for Refugees: Global protection cluster annual retreat

Event - Retreat - 21 - 23 March 2012

The two day meeting follows a successful conclusion of the Global Protection Cluster (GPC) visioning process which led to the elaboration of the GPC strategy and work plan. Participants will discuss the directions that the GPC will take as it implements its new strategy. They will also examine contemporary protection challenges. Victoria Metcalfe will present on civil-military coordination and protection of civilians.
