ODI hosts a large number of public meetings, workshops and seminars
in London every year, including meetings with the UK All-Party
Parliamentary Group on Overseas Development (APGOOD), and
other relevant Parliamentary All-party groups. These attract expert speakers
from around the world.
ODI also holds regular event series, taking an in-depth look at
key development issues, and participates in major international conferences and other events on issues relating to our themes of work.

This conference will bring together humanitarian organizations, relevant research institutes and donors to discuss different organizational perspectives on cash transfer interventions as a tool in humanitarian operations. HPG’s Sarah Bailey, co-author of GPR 11: Cash transfer programming in emergencies, will facilitate the event over two days.

From the popular uprisings in the Middle East, to the intervention in Libya, and now the tragedy unfolding in the Horn of Africa, many of this year’s top stories have been dominated by humanitarian issues. In this end of year debate, chaired by Channel 4's Jonathan Rugman and cast with leading figures from the humanitarian world, including the head of HPG, Sara Pantuliano, the panel discuss the main challenges to protecting and assisting people caught up in conflict and disasters in 2011. They will also explore the challenges which lie ahead in 2012.

With global risks on the increase, effective development policy depends on a good understanding of the impact of global shocks on low income countries and the most effective policy responses. At this roundtable event, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) presented findings of their first comprehensive 'Vulnerability Exercise' for Low-Income Countries (VE-LIC). This was followed by a discussion involving ODI researchers, academics and development practitioners.
