G20 and development: effectiveness & accountability

The discussions will examine the effectiveness and accountability of the G20 and focus on the following three questions:  

  • What are the broad ways in which the G20 affects development? What needs to be done to ensure maximum impact in future years?
  • Why is G20 accountability important? How can the G20 become more accountable?
  • How can we measure the G20’s effectiveness in promoting development? Which measures and aspirations can be assessed?  
Dr Dirk Willem te Velde (ODI) chaired a discussion on the above topics. Invited participants included senior officials from the UK government and senior experts from UK and other think thanks, NGOs and academia.
