The Millennium Development goals (MDGs) are eight development goals established in 2000 by the international community aimed to be achieve by the year 2015. With many of the goals off-track to meeting the target, the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon is convening a High-level Event on the MDGs on 25 September in New York. The event will bring together world leaders and the development community to accelerate the progress in meeting the Millennium Development Goals.
ODI, in partnership with the Chronic Poverty Research Centre, are hosting this side event around the September 25th MDG High Level event to address the underlying processes that can help to achieve the goals. The objective of the event is to draw attention to the fundamentals which underlie the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). If these are well addressed, the MDGs will be achieved. Presentations will be brief and accompanied by short, briefing papers or policy briefs.
