ODI’s Food Price Updates focus on tracking international prices of key staple cereals maize, rice, and wheat, and provide commentary on events in markets that affect these prices. They also follow international food and commodity price indices. Each edition tends to include a short in-depth section on a topic of interest.

Watching our weight: future diets and global public policy

ODI's Future Diets report traced how the changes in diet - more fat, more meat, more sugar and bigger portions - have led to a looming health crisis. It also looked at how policy-makers have tried to curb our eating excesses - with mixed results. This ODI event launched the report, featuring presentations by key experts on diet, nutrition and policy responses to the growth in obese and overweight people.

Future diets: implications for agriculture and food prices

​Diets are increasingly important in a world of economic growth and rising incomes. Two concerns, in particular, are emerging: the effect of diet on health; and the demands made by changing diets on agriculture. The impact is most marked in the developing world, where we now see both the fastest acceleration in over-consumption and the greatest continuing toll of under-consumption.
