Simone Haysom works on issues to do with displacement and humanitarian action in urban areas, and on HPG's Civil-Military Coordination project. Simone has an MPhil in Geography from the University of Cambridge. Prior to joining HPG, Simone researched the role of local institutions in facilitating urban service delivery in South Africa.

The conference brought together humanitarians, diplomats, soldiers, experts, journalists and others for a frank discussion about these issues affecting the protection of civilians and produced some recommendations for the future.

Experiences in Afghanistan have irrevocably shaped how aid agencies regard and relate to military forces during conflict. Through an examination of stabilisation interventions in Afghanistan, this Working Paper seeks to better understand the challenges of civil–military dialogue in the context of combined international and national military forces pursuing the lofty goal of stabilisation.

Projects - March 2013 to March 2015
This is the eleventh Integrated Programme (IP) of work proposed for funding by the Humanitarian Policy Group (HPG). The projects constitute the core of HPG’s research work in 2013–15, combining policy-relevant research and engagement, humanitarian practice, academic engagement and a vigorous and extensive public affairs programme of events, conferences and media work.
