Research Fellow, Social Development

Paola is an economist specialised in social policy with 8 years of international development experience in a range of developing countries, primarily in East and West Africa, South East Europe, in South East Asia and Latin America. Her research focuses on social protection, financing of social policies and programmes, particularly focusing on child-sensitive budgeting; child poverty reduction policy; child sensitive social protection; public expenditure management and gender analysis of policies and programmes. She worked in Mexico’s Ministry of Finance and Public Credit and Ministry of Health. After completing her Masters Degree, she worked as a Policy Advisor on the Young Lives Longitudinal Study on Childhood Poverty, and then became a freelance consultant researching on child-sensitive social protection, child poverty, social sector expenditure and building the capacity of partners in developing countries through joint work and training sessions. She has worked extensively with UNICEF, including with several country offices in West and Central Africa, Uganda, Nepal, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, FYR Macedonia and in the Middle East and North Africa Region. She is currently a Research Fellow in ODI’s Social Development Programme.
