Gillian brings more than 25 years blue-chip strategic brand building and integrated marketing communications to the Senior Management Team and the Communications department at ODI.

Gillian is also a Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Governance Committee for South London Healthcare Trust, an Acute Hospital Trust that serves a population of over 800,000 with a turnover of £400 million.

Before joining ODI, Gillian worked as a Branding Consultant for Macmillan Group Publishers on projects aimed at enriching the user experience and providing a platform for further development of the Macmillan brands digitally in response to the changing market conditions in publishing.

Prior to this, she held various senior Marketing positions at the Financial Times working internationally in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific, where she gained a broad understanding of integrated marketing communications with a specialisation in e-commerce across different markets and cultures. She was responsible for the Customer Services operation successfully delivering change and service improvements through staff integration, training, upgrading the IT infrastructure, and the introduction of performance led pay. She was also directly accountable for the subscription sales profit and loss account for both print and online subscription services.

From 1979 to 1985 Gillian held various posts at The Observer and BBC External Services.

Throughout the world, humanity is putting unsustainable pressure on natural resources and this manifests itself in new challenges and opportunities for developing countries. Water, energy and land are intimately connected. For example, producing more food needs more water and more energy, as well as more land, and developing countries are a frequent target for investment in land for agricultural production. Trying to tackle climate change by producing bio-fuels adds to pressure on land and water. None of us can escape the consequences of the impending resource crisis.
