Research Officer

Jakob has a particular interest in governance and institutional reform at the national and regional level; education, skills development and employment; as well as trade and innovation policy. This is underpinned by strong background in social science research methodologies.

He was previously a policy advisor at the DFID/BIS Trade Policy Unit where he worked on the trade impact of the economic crisis, as well as on the impact of technology transfer and intellectual property righs on economic and social development in middle- and low-income countries. He has worked as a consultant for DFID, UNESCO, the WTO and the UK Intellectual Property Office. He has also worked as a research assistant at the University of Vienna, and the LSE Crisis States Research Centre.

Dialogue on the future of aid for trade

Event - Workshop - 23 November 2012 10:00 - 19:00 (GMT+01 (BST))

The goal of this event is to bring together Geneva-based negotiators and officials, international trade experts, representatives from donor agencies, and key actors from beneficiary countries so that they can review where the Aid for Trade initiative currently stands. This exchange of experiences will help inform discussions being held in the lead-up to the next Aid for Trade Global Review in 2013. Jodie Keane and Jakob Engel will present findings from the ODI Working Paper 'Increasing the effectiveness of Aid for Trade: the circumstances under which it works best'.
