Head of Communications (Interim), Communications

Nick focuses on ways digital tools can support the communications, research and management processes of think tanks. He developed ODI’s online communications strategy, awarded Online Strategy of the Year 2012 in the Digital Communications Awards. He is also the founder of WonkComms, a popular community of practice for think tank communications staff.

Nick has broad experience of all aspects of the marketing and communications mix and works across the organisation to communicate research, providing advice on strategic communications to a number of ODI's programmes.

Before ODI, Nick supported online projects at a range of organisations, including ODI, Guardian Unlimited (the UK’s largest and most internationally popular newspaper website), and The Metropolitan Police.

GDN research communications workshops

Projects - May 2009 to January 2010

A series of workshops being held in London, Cairo, Nairobi, Colombo and Prague hosted by RAPID and the ODI communications team. Participants are from GDN networks around the world. The first 2 days introduce basic principles and tools to effectively communicate research to inform pro-poor policy, followed by a surgery for one-on-one consultations to review participants' work and ask questions of the facilitators.

Projects - December 2008 to January 2010

As part of the Boll Foundation's Global Dialogue Program this study seeks to update research for an existing Boll-ODI-WWFUS study on new climate finance instruments as the basis for creating and managing a public access website with a database of a select and agreed upon group of bilateral and multilateral cliamte funds.

In this video created for YouTube's "In My Name" campaign Jessica Espey of the Overseas Development and Chronic Poverty Research Centre, argues that the Millennium Development Goals need to more explicitly focus on gender dynamics and offers some strategies policy-makers and the UN could take up to do this, and reduce poverty in the developing world.
