Nick focuses on ways digital tools can support the communications, research and management processes of think tanks. He developed ODI’s online communications strategy, awarded Online Strategy of the Year 2012 in the Digital Communications Awards. He is also the founder of WonkComms, a popular community of practice for think tank communications staff.

Nick has broad experience of all aspects of the marketing and communications mix and works across the organisation to communicate research, providing advice on strategic communications to a number of ODI's programmes.

Before ODI, Nick supported online projects at a range of organisations, including ODI, Guardian Unlimited (the UK’s largest and most internationally popular newspaper website), and The Metropolitan Police.

This is the third in a series of blogs looking at the challenges of ‘digital disruption’ and ODI’s strategy in responding to them. The first blog set the scene, and second outlined in more detail one of three planks of ODI’s strategy: ‘being there communications’. If ‘being there’ outlines the channel the message is delivered through, this blog looks at the content of the message itself, and how the Internet is changing the format of the message and time horizons for which a message can be relevant.

The International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie, www.3ieimpact.org) is a new initiative dedicated to improving development outcomes through better use of evidence from quality impact evaluations. The main challenge for the organisation is to promote influential impact evaluations that will help improve policies and programs and ultimately affect many lives in developing countries.
