Massimiliano Calì is a development economist, and his current research focuses on the relation between trade, development and growth, on the effects of migration on source countries, and on the determinants and implications of urbanisation in developing countries.

The trade talks have collapsed over the issue of Special Safeguard Measures (or SSMs) in agriculture. This measure, which allows countries to protect specific agricultural sectors from import surges, was not even among the hottest negotiating issues. And neither India and China (the two most interested parties in the negotiations) have used SSM yet.

This project sought to inform EPA negotiations between Europe and the Kingdom of Swaziland. Focusing on Swaziland's export of services, it identified those negotiating strategies and positions most conducive to the continuing growth and development of the country's service sector.
