Migration restrictions are a bad way to fight unemployment in times of crisis. There is no evidence less immigration means less unemployment in the UK or anywhere else.

Pursuing a Doha trade deal is a low priority

This Opinion argues that the pursuit of the Doha Trade Round should be a low priority, and that other trade issues are more important. Not only are the returns from a Doha round likely to be low, but the potential costs are high, as a failure or minimal compromise is likely to undermine the credibility of the WTO.
For now, rather than focusing on the Doha Round, it appears to be more sensible to concentrate on six more important trade issues:

Projects - December 2008 to January 2010

The global financial crisis that emerged in the financial sector in developed countries has spread to the real sector in both developing and developing countries. ODI’s Investment and Growth Programme has conducted research on the global financial crisis since October 2008.
