Julian Doczi
Research Officer, Water Policy
Julian Doczi
is a Research Officer in Water Policy at the Overseas Development Institute in
London, with nearly four years of experience in the water & sanitation and
climate change adaptation sectors.
His expertise is in the urban water sector, particularly on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) project implementation & policy (though with a growing interest in water resources management as well). He is particularly interested in tackling the huge governance challenges facing this sector, including through better financing & capacity development. He is also strong on the linkages between WASH & climate change, especially on tackling the sector's development deficit to current climate variability.
Some of his sectoral interests include: decision support for water sector climate risk management; political economy analysis; water operator partnerships (WOPs); innovative financing models (e.g. development impact bonds); water safety planning; 'tools' and economic analysis for climate adaptation in the water sector; the water sector's post-2015 development process; improving urban WASH service delivery & technologies; GIS mapping; solid waste management in sanitation systems; and impact evaluation and M&E for water sector programming.
Outside of the water sector, he is also interested in promoting sustainable energy for all, sustainable transport systems, urban planning & sustainable cities, and mainstreaming climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction into sustainable development programmes.
He has travelled widely in East and Southeast Asia. He considers himself at strong conversational level in Tagalog and has decent knowledge of French.
He holds a M.Sc. in Climate Change and International Development from the University of East Anglia (UK) and a B.Sc. in Environmental Sciences from Royal Roads University (Canada).
