'How
to promote more informed policy and practice' Policy
Entrepreneurship Workshop for OSI Public Policy Centers, Chisinau,
Moldova, 17 June 2004
This workshop was designed for the directors of senior staff of
policy research centers in Central and Eastern Europe and the former
Soviet Union. The purpose was to improve participants' ability to
analyze the context within which they work and develop strategies
to improve the policy impact of their work (view Participants

10kb). The workshop was hosted by the Institute
for Public Policy (IPP) in Chisinau, Moldova on 17 June 2004.
The one-day workshop focused on the following core components:
- Introductions
- Research-Policy Processes in the CEE/FSU Region
- Learn about the Context: Evidence: Links framework
- Share experiences about approaches to strengthen research-policy
links
- Maximizing Policy Influence: Tools and approaches
- Conclusions and evaluation
Main issues of the workshop were:
- Research is essential but
- Other activities are needed to ensure it contributes to policy
and practice
- Clear lessons about how to do this are emerging:
- Political context is crucial - understand it to maximize
your chances
- Figure out what evidence is needed and how to package it
for policy makers
- Collaborate with other actors
- There are some straightforward but useful tools that can help
think tanks maximize the impact of their work on policy and practice
