ODI, Epic and Communicaid
have come together to create an innovative solution for the
provision of a blended learning solution for an Influencing
Skills Learning Programme for DFID.
Features of the integrated solution include:
- An e-learning platform and process that facilitates an
intelligent diagnostic that enables learners to articulate
their needs and pinpoint the relevant material;
- E-learning 'nuggets' developed in conjunction with ODI
providing short focused tutorials on influencing and negotiation
theory. These will free up workshop time for case work and
discussion;
- Video simulations that place the learner at the heart
of a negotiation where they have to use their influencing
skills;
- Two-day workshop events from ODI and Communicaid which
act as focused masterclasses;
- Opportunities for post-course networking and knowledge
sharing using wikis, discussion fora and blogs.
This flexible solution can be used both as a fully blended
solution in combination with the workshops, or as online self-study
for those staff who cannot attend the offline events. The
overall programme involves three modules:
- Module 1: to support DFID teams in developing,
delivering and evaluating longer-term tactical influencing
strategies as part of DDPs or departmental business plans.
- Module 2: to support individual staff in being
more assertive in the workplace, and being more effective
in influencing others within their team
- Module 3: to develop effective negotiation strategies,
skills and behaviours, taking account of cultural and organisational
factors
Module 1 is led by ODI's RAPID
team in collaboration with experts within the organisation,
thus drawing from the experience of leaders in the field of
development.
