Civil
Society Organisations and Policy Entrepreneurship Workshops
Hanoi, Vietnam, 11-12 April 2006; Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, 9-10 July 2007; Hue, Vietnam 12-13 July 2007
This workshop series is being held as part of the Civil
Society Partnerships Programme funded project 'Understanding
the Role of Civil Society and Evidence-based Policymaking in Vietnam',
which aims to provide an understanding of the role of research institutes
and think-tanks in policymaking in Vietnam.
The 2006 workshop in Hanoi was held at the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences
(VASS), with various research institutes at the national and sub-national
level to enable the discussion and validation of the preliminary
results from the project case study work and to provide training
and dissemination of the wider results from the CSSP. The workshop
also provided an opportunity to share the learning on bridging research
and policy with the Vietnamese research community. The workshop
was facilitated by Cecilia Luttrell and Naved Chowdhury from ODI.
Case studies were presented by CAF as well as from Hochiminh City
Institute of Economics Research (IER). The topics covered included
establishment of HCMC Fund for Urban Development, Economics Growth
and its Implications for Polices in Vietnam and Decentralization
Decree of HCMC.
The 2007 workshops were also held in conjunction with the Vietnam Academy of Social Science (VASS) in addition to the Centre for Analysis and Forecasting (CAF) and were facilitated by Naved Chowdhury and Nicola Jones from ODI. These workshops focused in particular on successful examples of evidence-based policy uptake from around the world. There were also some interesting discussions on the role of the
media and internet-based media in policy influencing in
Vietnam.
