Verena Fritz
Verena is a Research Fellow with the Poverty and Public Policy Group. She is a political scientist with a focus on political economy analysis, public sector reform, and state effectiveness and accountability. Verena holds a PhD from the European University Institute in Florence , and is currently preparing her thesis on state-building in the former Soviet Union for publication.
Verena’s current research focuses on governance, corruption, and aid effectiveness. Together with David Booth she is managing a two-year research project on governance and new aid modalities. On the Public Finance Management (PFM) side, Verena is leading a Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability (PEFA) assessment of Tajikistan. She has been involved in political economy work covering various issues and countries (Mongolia; Western Balkans; Ukraine). .
