Weaknesses in public policies - those of the poor countries themselves, and those of donor nations - bear a heavy responsibility for this state of affairs, which leaves a shocking proportion of the world's population in extreme deprivation.
ODI's Poverty and Public Policy Group addresses this challenge, undertaking policy research, dissemination and advisory work on the central issues facing public policies for poverty reduction across the globe.
Our interests span a wide but closely linked set of issues. We seek a better understanding of the causes of persistent poverty and inequality, in order to identify better entry points for public action. We are interested in why development results are so much better in some countries than in others, and what can be done to close this gap. And we want to know how aid can be more effective in supporting country policies that work.
