ALNAP Review of Humanitarian Action Series

The Review of Humanitarian Action is ALNAP’s flagship publication. Published annually, it aims to monitor humanitarian performance and key issues for the sector, whilst also amplifying the key findings from recent evaluative reports for a sector-wide audience.

Each Review consists of three components:

  • An overview chapter assessing humanitarian performance and monitoring key issues for the sector.

  • A synthesis chapter, which is a review of recent humanitarian performance and lessons learned, through a review of evaluative material submitted to ALNAP by members and other agencies.

  • A chapter aimed at monitoring the quality of evaluation of humanitarian action (EHA). Every two years, the Review carries out a meta-evaluation assessing the quality of evaluation reports. In alternate years, the Review addresses an EHA-related theme.

ALNAP's 7th Review of Humanitarian Action has just been published. All chapters and Key Messages are available to view here.

Previous Reviews have featured chapters focussing on a theme related to learning and accountability in humanitarian action, such as the Kosovo crisis, knowledge management, monitoring, field level learning and most recently, capacity building.
