Structure of ALNAP

ALNAP comprises Full Members and Observer Members. The network is governed by a steering committee representing the full membership, and serviced by a small Secretariat.

The ALNAP Full Membership is designed to reflect the structure of the humanitarian sector through its 5 different membership groupings: Donor organisations, Red Cross/Crescent movement, UN agencies, Non-governmental organisations, and independent academic organisations and experts. To ensure a reasonable level of intimacy in discussions and meetings, the number of Full Members is limited to 60. Most Full Members are organisations and are represented at ALNAP through a representative. Other Full Members are individuals, selected for their relevant expertise.

Observer Members are individuals with a keen interest in humanitarian performance issues, who wish to be updated on ALNAP’s activities. A limited number of Observer Members attend the first day of ALNAP’s biannual meetings. Observer Members also receive relevant notices and information shared by other members of the network.

ALNAP’s Steering Committee consists of 8 Full Member representatives. Each Steering Committee member represents one of the ALNAP membership groupings. Activities of the network are managed and implemented through the ALNAP Secretariat, which is hosted by the Overseas Development Institute in London.
